Lhasa is the urban center of the prefecture-level Lhasa City and the administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China. Lhasa is the second most populous urban area on the Tibetan Plateau after Xining and, at an average altitude of 3,656 meters. Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world.

Lhasa Pure Land Men’s Basketball Club is Tibet’s first professional basketball team. The team was created in 2015. This team filled the professional basketball club vacancy that had previously existed in Tibet. At the same time, it became the seventh team in the NBL, earning good results as an All-China First Class team.

Lhasa Pure Land Men’s Basketball Club’s home court is the highest altitude basketball court in the world. The highest-altitude basketball court is situated at an altitude of 3,658 meters. At this altitude, the atmosphere is very thin and is challenging even for people not doing rigorous exercises. People often experience chest pains, headaches, and many other symptoms of the plateau syndrome here. However, Tibetan people love to exercise, even the extreme cold and lack of oxygen could not stop basketball from flourishing on the plateau.

In order to promote the athletic spirit in Tibet, the basketball clubs often visit nearby schools, special education schools, retirement homes, monasteries, and other places to meet their fans, share their athletic spirit, give out sports subsidies, encourage people to improve their physical conditioning, and live healthier lives.
