Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal soccer club has etched its name in history by achieving a remarkable feat: the most consecutive wins in men’s top-flight soccer. This incredible achievement came on the heels of their 2-0 victory over local rivals Al-Ittihad in the Asian Champions League quarterfinals, marking their 28th consecutive win.

This dominant run surpasses the previous record held by Welsh team The New Saints, who secured 27 wins in a row during the 2016/17 season. Interestingly, the record before that belonged to Dutch giants Ajax, who held the title for a staggering 44 years with their 26-game winning streak between 1971 and 1972.

Al-Hilal’s manager, Jorge Jesus, expressed his team’s delight at achieving this historic milestone. “Everyone at Al Hilal is delighted to achieve world football history by winning 28 consecutive matches,” he stated. This impressive run signifies a period of exceptional form for the Saudi club, showcasing their tactical prowess and consistent on-field dominance.

Undefeated in the Saudi Pro League this season, the team is 12 points clear of Al-Nassr at the top of the table. More impressive still is that the success has come largely without star player Neymar, who underwent major knee surgery in November.

Olympique Lyonnais Féminin has the most consecutive wins in soccer – men’s or women’s – with 41 across all competitions between 2012 and 2013.
