Na Hang district is 108 kilometers north of Tuyen Quang city. In Tay, the phrase Na Hang means “the last field.” Na Hang district covers an area of over 863km2 and has over 10.580 households with a population of over 47.000 people. Na Hang area is home to 12 ethnic groups, resulting in a diversified culture, rich in identity, and a variety of traditional activities that attract tourists.

The Culinary Competition of Highland People in 2023 at Na Hang district is part of the Tourism Program “Through the Viet Bac heritage region and Tuyen citadel Festival in 2023” organized by the Na Hang district People’s Committee. The competition was held on August 19, 2023 in Na Hang district (Tuyen Quang province), with 114 teams from local villages and residential neighborhoods participating.

The competition that demonstrates the essence of the mix of ground and sky, human and nature, traditional and modern culture in human creativity. It developed the distinctive cuisine of the Na Hang region, which includes fried fish and salad, buffalo skin salad, Bong fish salad, grilled pork, buffalo skin stir-fry with bamboo shoot, crispy fired fish, multicolored sticky rice, snail stir-fry with fermented rice, Tram fish stewed pork, and so on.

The competition drew 114 teams from Na Hang District’s villages and residential districts. The participants prepare food in 90 minutes and exhibit it on 114 trays with a variety of traditional family recipes and local ethnic specialties. The teams displayed a range of delicious foods, attractive food trays, responsibilities, artistic ability, and inventiveness.

The tournament became “A processing and displaying traditional culinary competition of highland people in Na Hang province with the most food trays in Vietnam” because to the 114 food trays created by 114 local teams. On August 19, 2023, the Vietnam record was awarded to the People’s Committee of Na Hang district, Tuyen Quang province.

With the Na Hang Highland Culinary Culture Festival in 2023, the Organizing Committee hopes to contribute to attracting tourists to Na Hang while also promoting the provinces’ unique cultural strengths.
