Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC) is a Canadian sports television program that broadcasts National Hockey League (NHL) games on Saturday nights.

HNIC first aired on radio in 1931 and switched to television in 1952. It has been broadcast on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for its entire history, except for a brief period from 2004 to 2007 when it was also broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet.

In addition to the games themselves, HNIC also features a variety of pre-game, halftime, and post-game analysis and commentary. The program’s signature theme song, “The Hockey Theme”, is one of the most recognizable pieces of music in Canadian culture. It is also known for its iconic commentators and analysts, such as Foster Hewitt, Ron MacLean, and Don Cherry.

HNIC is a cultural institution in Canada, and it is one of the most popular and watched sports television programs in the world.
