Richard Harold Smith, also known as Dick Smith, is an Australian entrepreneur, adventurer, and philanthropist. He is best known for being the world’s first person to solo circumnavigate the world by helicopter.

Smith was born in Sydney, Australia in 1944. He developed an interest in flying at a young age, and he earned his pilot’s license at the age of 17. In 1974, he founded Dick Smith Electronics, an electronics retailer that became one of the largest in Australia.
