Bodil Nyboe Andersen (born 1940) is a Danish economist. She previously taught at the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Economics and in 1981 served on the board of directors of Andelsbanken (later Unibank), where she became director. Nyboe Andersen was Denmark’s first female bank director and the world’s first female central bank governor (from 1995 to 2005).

Andersen was born in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, Denmark. She is the daughter of the economist and politician Poul Nyboe Andersen. She studied economics at the University of Copenhagen, graduating with a master’s degree in 1966.

As governor of the National Bank, Andersen was responsible for Denmark’s monetary policy. She played a key role in the Danish economy during the 1990s and 2000s. Andersen retired from the National Bank in 2005. She then served as president of Dansk Røde Kors, the Danish Red Cross, from 2005 to 2009.  

In connection with her retirement as governor of the National Bank, in 2006 Nyboe Andersen was honoured with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog, an exceptionally high honour.

Andersen is a highly respected economist and public figure. She is known for her intelligence, her strong work ethic, and her commitment to public service. She is a role model for women in business and government.
