Chris and Julie Ramsey are EV adventurers from Aberdeen, Scotland. Chris Ramsey is an experienced adventurer. Julie Ramsey is a passionate environmentalist and advocate for sustainable living.

The couple set off in March from the 1823 Magnetic North Pole location in Canada and have since driven about 21,000 miles (33,800 km) across 14 Countries to reach Antarctica. Travelling in their Nissan Ariya electric car they arrived at the South Pole on December 15.

Upon reaching their ultimate destination, the Ariya achieved the distinction of being the first electric vehicle (EV) to traverse from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of the Earth.

The Ramsey’s Ariya, which they nicknamed “Sonrisa,” meaning “smile” in Spanish, was outfitted with several modifications to enable it to drive across everything from frozen sea ice to the Atacama Desert. This included 39-inch tires with modified wheel arches and roof-mounted solar panels to help charge the car in the Antarctic. However, the couple stressed that the changes made to the car were minimal.

The Ramseys previously became the first to compete in the Mongol Rally in an EV, driving 10,000 miles from the UK to Mongolia in a modified Nissan Leaf, and wrote on Instagram that they had undertaken their latest adventure to debunk myths about how capable EVs are.

Their incredible expedition pushed the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and sustainability, showcasing the capabilities of these cars even in extreme environments. While others have reached one pole in an electric car before, the Ramseys’ accomplishment of traversing between both poles makes them true pioneers in this field.
