The National Merchant Marine Academy of Greece is the oldest continuously operating merchant marine academy in the world. It was founded in 1749 as the Saint Nikolaos Nautical School in Hydra, Greece. In 1930, the school moved to its current location in Piraeus, Greece.

The academy offers a four-year program leading to a Diploma in Nautical Science. Students at the academy are called midshipmen and they are required to participate in a rigorous academic program as well as a demanding physical training program.
